SSE FAMILY FUN CYCLE RIDESStation House, Sycamore Close, Takeley, Essex, CMThese two events are run by the Stop Stansted Expansion Campaign to show the beautiful countryside and villages which we can enjoy but which are under threat from the proposed expansion to Stansted Airport, notably plans for a second runway. It is free to take part but we welcome voluntary donations Cyclists returning to Station House at Takeley are invited to join the lunch time BBQ Parking is available at adjacent sports field. Both events start at the EVENT HEADQUARTERS Station House, Sycamore Close TAKELEY Situated on B183 100 yards south of Four Ashes Cross Roads FLITCH WAY FAMILY FUN CYCLE RIDE and B.B.Q.- 9 miles This ride starts from 10.30am and takes in a section of the Flitch Way which has a firm base and a hard gravely surface built on the bed of a dismantled railway that once ran from Bishop’s Stortford to Dunmow and then onto Braintree. The route also forms the northern boundary of Hatfield Forest, running directly through countryside and lovely wooded areas, rich wildlife and views over open farmland. There is no traffic which makes it ideal for families with children looking for a safe and enjoyable mornings cycling, the track is used by walkers, cyclists and horse riders. Further information – contact SSE.Campaign Office 01279 870558 or info@stopstanstedexpansion.com THE BROXTED CHALLENGE CYCLE RIDE – 24 miles Starting from 9.30 am this ride is an ideal introduction to cycle touring for competent cyclists and passes through beautiful countryside and pretty villages. The route includes winding lanes which are often wooded and shady in the early summer sun. These open to vistas across the gently rolling Essex countryside. There are few motor cars though there are some sections of B roads where these can not be avoided. Principal villages on the route: Takeley, Bambers Green, Molehill Green, Brick End Broxted, Great Easton, Henham, Elsenham, Tye Green and Fuller’s End. Every rider will be provided with a route description sheet and map. Ride the tour at your own pace. You may register on the day but are advised to register by post in advance to gain a route sheet and map. All are welcome riders aged 14 years and under to be accompanied by a responsible adult, under 18 years must provide parental consent on forms available.
