MUSICAL STARTERS (HERTFORD)Grove Cottage, 39 Port Hill, Hertford, Herts, SG14 3BHVenue: Grove Cottage. Times: Saturday 9.30am-10.30am & 10.45am-11.45am. Costs: £6.00 per session; 10 sessions payable in advance. I run groups of 4-6 year olds, five per group plus parent, teaching them the basics of musicianship, involving singing and rhythm games, leading to elementary composition of melodies. Why do I do this? During the last 10 years of piano teaching I have been convinced that pupils would have benefited from an early, thorough grounding in musicianship, which would have helped them understand how music works, consequently increasing their pleasure. The system I have adopted is called the Tobin Music System, pioneered for many years by Candida Tobin of Sawbridgeworth.
