JESSICA ROST - PAINTER / SCULPTOR / COMMUNITY ARTIST / PROJECT MANAGER (BERKHAMSTED)Norcott Arts, Norcott Court, Berkhamsted, Herts, HP4 1LEJessica Rost is best known for her larger scale car sculpture, echoing the "in-your-face" culture and her fascination with obsessive consumerism. Recent approaches look at the contradictions of materialism and spirituality, and the subliminal levels of culture. Rost works from either end: either the idea or the material. Material-led work is more intuitive, and has used found and recycled materials, objects with history, and objects removed from their context. After participating in an International Symposium in Lithuania in 1998, Jessica has created links with France, China, Poland, Munich and Rome. She began a biannual International Symposium for Milton Keynes which she co-ordinated in 2000, 2002 and 2004, on behalf of the Silbury Group of Artists of which she is a member and project manager. As a self-employed community artist since 1996 she has undertaken many commissions, art weeks, residences and workshops, working with groups, other artists and art organisations.
