HERTFORDSHIRE COUNTY YOUTH ORCHESTRAHertfordshire Music Service, Wheathampstead Development Centre, Butterfield Road, Wheathampstead, Herts, AL4 8PYEstablished over thirty five years ago, the County Youth Orchestra offers high quality orchestral experience for more advanced instrumentalists. Under the direction of principal conductor, Peter Stark, the orchestra has gained a reputation as one of the best youth orchestra in the country. The CYO performs at major venues and festivals in Europe - in summer 2003 the orchestra toured to Eastern Germany and Poland - and is noted for its innovative concerts and challenging repertoire. Recent performances have included Messiaen´s Turangalila Symphony, Mahler 3, Benjamin Britten´s War Requiem, and acclaimed CD recording of Rachmaninoff´s Symphony No 2 and a performance of the 3rd Piano Concerto with John Lill. In the 2003-2004 season, the orchestra made a recording of Elgar´s Concerto for Violin with David Greed. Prospective players should be of Grade VIII standard.
