HERTFORDSHIRE AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY (HERTS COUNTY SHOW)The Showground, Dunstable Road, Redbourn, Hertfordshire, AL3 7PTThe Society was formed in 1801 and owns 70 acres of showground north of Redbourn, near St Albans. The County Show has been held on it since 1962. In 1930 the Society was reconstituted as a trust with charitable status and in December 1984 it was incorporated as a Company Limited by Guarantee. It remains a registered charity. The aim of our Society is to promote farming and agriculture and all associated skills, crafts, and trades and professions. This is an important role as our County has lost much of its livestock and cropland and with it, many of traditional skills that keep our countryside beautiful. They achieve their aim through the annual Herts County Show, which is held on the Showground on the weekend of the last May Bank Holiday each year. They have Grand Ring events, show jumping, many breeds of horses, rabbits and other small animals, trade stands, cars, food, flower and garden marquees, vintage vehicles and plenty of fun for the children as well. Most importantly, it also gives the public a rare opportunity to see and learn about animals, machinery and methods of modern farming. The Herts County Show is the largest County event (31,000 visitors in 2005) and widely acknowledged as the showcase for the ´Best of Hertfordshire´. Limited company by guarantee no. 1872574.
