DIANE MACLEAN - SCULPTOR / ENVIRONMENTAL ARTIST (ST ALBANS)Daneswick, Noke Lane, St Albans, Herts, AL2 3NUDeep within us is an affinity with natural things. This can be in conflict with a love of technology, as new discoveries lead us away from contact with nature. In Diane´s work she tries to find a balance between the two. Each time she approaches a new work, she responds to the place where the work is to be sited and to the reason for it to be there. The materials Diane works with are an important element in the work as they reveal what is possible in their use. She tries to find ways to make their qualities visible. The advancement of science makes new materials and ways of seeing things available to the artist. She welcomes this possibility for change. Multiples, reflection, transparency, movement and light are present variously in many of Diane´s sculptures and installations. In them, she seeks equivalents for elemental movement, water, wind, for objects in the landscape and human form, frequently working on a large scale.
