Housed in an elegantly converted and extended Victorian mansion, original home of the Higgins family of wealthy Bedford Brewers, the Cecil Higgins Art Gallery is home to one of the most outstanding fine and decorative art collections outside London. The Gallery offers: * a remarkable collection of British and European watercolours from the 18th to the 20th centuries and international prints from Impressionism to the present. * a distinguished group of ceramics and glass from the Renaissance to the 20th century, with a particular focus on 18th century porcelain, Whitefriars glass and ceramics of the Arts and Crafts movement. * authentically reconstructed Victorian room settings in the Victorian Mansion, suggesting the life of a prosperous 1880´s household. * the William Burges room; a complete Gothic experience. * hands-on activities for children and workshops for all ages. * changing exhibitions from the collection and elsewhere. * programme of events, lectures, performances and more. * fully guided tours available for groups on request (charges vary). * a shop selling high quality souvenirs and work by local designers.
